If you have updated your iPhone to iOS 26and you use WhatsAppyou may have encountered a problem that many report, and in which I include myself. And when it comes to sending a newly taken photo, WhatsApp tells you that the file cannot be sent.

This happens in certain cases, and although we do not know the real reason, nor have the companies offered a solution or an answer to the problem, we do know how to solve it, or at least temporarily, while they fix this error that occurs to many in the current version of the system.

How to solve WhatsApp photo error

Although it is something that does not happen to everyone, if you are here it has probably happened to you, or you simply want to know the problem, in case you encounter it. It is very simple, and there will be two ways to solve it.

  1. Send the photo directly from the WhatsApp camera: If we take an image and want to send it, but we get an error when trying to extract it from our gallery, there is a simpler way, and that is to take it with the WhatsApp camera, even though the quality is worse, since, in this way, it will be sent directly without errors.
  2. Wait a few minutes: The error only occurs with newly taken images, so if we cannot do it again, because it was an unrepeatable moment, we can wait or restart the iPhone, since, after a few minutes, this error will disappear and it will allow us to send it.

Other ways to fix errors in WhatsApp

An alternative that some users have tried successfully is to review the app's permissions. Sometimes after updating iOS, WhatsApp may temporarily lose access to the camera or photos. Go into Settings > WhatsApp > Photos and make sure you have full access. Although it may seem like a minor detail, iOS 26 has introduced changes to the way it handles privacy, and that can lead to unexpected crashes when sharing media.

Another option, more technical, but effective, is force data update in the app. Close WhatsApp completely, open the App Switcher and swipe up to close it. Then restart your phone and open WhatsApp again. This helps “refresh” the application and often allows newly taken photos to be sent without problems.

Finally, if you don't want to complicate things, You can upload the photo to iCloud, Google Drive or send it to yourself via AirDrop. This way you share it in another way and forget about the error completely. It is not the definitive solution, but it gets you out of trouble without losing time or quality. You just have to wait for WhatsApp or Apple to fix the bug with an update and everything works as before. This is something that usually happens with new versions of systems, since the apps are not optimized for them, and it takes a while to return to normal.

And you, have you had this problem, or luckily, has it not happened to you yet? It's quite frustrating, so let's hope they fix it soon.
