According to Mark Gurman of Bloombergwho just spoke to us about the Magic Mouse 3, the next generation of AirTags will benefit from a significant improvement thanks to a new ultra-wideband (UWB) chip. This upgrade will triple the range of the “Precise Location” feature, providing much more effective tracking.
3x greater range
The current AirTag, launched in 2021, uses a UWB chip introduced with the iPhone 11, providing a range of 10 to 30 meters for precise location tracking. With the new chip that we know from the iPhone 15, the second generation AirTag could reach a range of 30 to 90 metersmaking finding lost items much more convenient when you get closer. Obviously, the approximate location at a long distance will not change, but once in the “hot” zone, it will then be much easier to find your bag, your bike or other object that you have associated with the AirTag.
A top product
While waiting for this new model, probably sometime in 2025, know that the current AirTags remain very popular and are particularly affordable. They are found at €29 per unit Or €89 for a pack of 4 on Amazona good gift idea for the Christmas holidays for example. Also find AirTags accessories for bicycles, at a time when theft has become a real scourge.
With this expected update, AirTags 2 promise to become an even more essential tool for easily finding everyday objects, with some even using it on their pets (although Apple advises against it).
