Having become CEO of Apple in 2011, Tim Cook clearly seems immovable at the head of the Cupertino company. In a recent interview with Wiredthe leader nevertheless returned to the question of his departure and retirement.

Tim Cook keeps the mystery alive

He was therefore questioned to find out how long he thought he would remain CEO of the Apple brand. A question which visibly embarrassed him since he responded with a humorous pirouette indicating that he was being asked this question more and more, no doubt, because his hair was turning gray. He says he loves this place and what it does, a sign that it’s not for tomorrow yet.

He specifies in this regard: “It’s the privilege of a lifetime to be here. And I’ll do it until the voice in my head tells me the time is right.”. All those who were waiting for a more precise answer should therefore remain hungry.

In the past, however, the boss has already indicated that he will not be at the head of Apple for more than 20 years. In short, this means that he will no longer manage the company in 2031, which gives a very broad horizon. Tim Cook also declared that he wanted to be replaced by someone who already works for Apple when he leaves.

The manager also explained what he was looking for in his close colleagues within the company. Four main qualities stand out: the ability to collaborate as a team, curiosity, creativity, and expertise. To find out more about this, do not hesitate to reread our previous article here.

Who to succeed Tim Cook?

It is of course impossible at this stage to know the person who will replace him at the head of the company. Often well informed about the mysteries of the Cupertino firm, journalist Mark Gurman affirmed that it could be John Ternuscurrent Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.

And for good reason, the latter is still relatively young, 49 years old, and he already has important responsibilities within the Tech giant. He notably oversaw the engineering of Macs, then his skills extended to other products, including the iPhone. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to take the throne.

What to remember:

  • Tim Cook remains discreet about his retirement
  • For now, he has no intention of leaving
  • Several names are already circulating internally to ensure his replacement when the time comes
