While it launched the beta version of visionOS 2.3 this week, Apple is actively developing the next major iterations of the operating system for its Vision Pro. Indeed, references to visionOS 2.4 and visionOS 3.0 are already visible in the American giant’s documentation, suggesting rapid evolution, as was the case between visionOS 1 and visionOS 2 which were released a few months apart.
Apple is getting ahead
Indeed, as noted by AppleInsiderApple inadvertently revealed that it is working on visionOS 3.0 and visionOS 2.4 in the documentation of an example project. These mentions suggest that visionOS 3.0 is the next major software update, while visionOS 2.4 is planned for a 2025 release. At the same time, Apple is known to be pushing iOS 18.4 and iOS 19.
Details on new features or improvements in these upcoming versions are not yet available, but it is reasonable to expect that they will include various new features, as well as the traditional bug fixes and user experience improvements. Notably, the Apple Vision Pro does not support Apple Intelligence features, which use the device’s M2 chip. These features, such as Writing Tools, Genmoji, and Image Playground, already improve the user experience on iPads and Macs with similar Apple Silicon, running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 Sequoia.
The (rare) users of the mixed reality headset are certainly impatient to discover visionOS 2.4, but especially visionOS 3.0 which could take the space computer to another milestone. If Tim Cook is reading us, it’s probably time to fill out the list of grievances! What are you missing in visionOS so far?
