Tesla discreetly presented a 7-seater version of its Model Y at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, thus confirming the rumors that had been circulating for several months. This new configuration (which is not the long-awaited restyled version) aims to appeal to large families, but with a notable limitation: these two additional seats are mainly intended for children, because the space is very limited.
Finally the 7-seater option
On the stand of Teslaquite modest and without obvious signage, the manufacturer has not highlighted this model in an ostentatious manner. However, beyond the cars on display like the Cybertruck, which should not be marketed in Europe, or the Robot Optimus, it is the 7-seater Model Y that attracts attention. With a third row of folding seats, Tesla offers a more affordable solution than the Model X, whose 7-seater configuration costs more than €100,000. In comparison, the Model Y offers this option for €2,500, which remains a significant amount.
However, the experience of journalists on site is not the most convincing. Access to the third row is difficult due to the sloping body, and headroom is extremely limited. With insufficient roof height, even short people find themselves cramped. Better to be under 1m70 tall to be able to close the tailgate. Result: the two rear seats are intended for children.
Despite these limitations, Tesla has integrated some improvements, such as a sliding rear seat in 60/40 format and a generous trunk offering 363 liters of volume in a 7-seater configuration. Not forgetting an additional USB-C port and electric seat control from the trunk.
This 7-seater Model Y is already available for order in Europe, after having been launched in the United States, and could appeal to families looking for a more affordable electric SUV.
That said, more generous competitors like Mercedes EQB Or Kia EV9 also offer 7 seats, but without the performance of Tesla.
