DJI has just unveiled the Mic Mini, its new ultra-compact wireless microphone. After winning over content creators with the DJI Mic 2, the Chinese brand now offers a miniaturized version that promises excellent performance in an ultra-light format. This new reference could well become essential for content creators, vloggers and professionals on the go.
After several weeks of testing, here are 3 reasons to fall for the DJI Mic mini!
Price and availability of the DJI Mic mini
DJI offers three configurations of the Mic mini to meet different needs and budgets:
- The complete pack including 2 TX + 1 RX + charging box is offered at €169
- The simple pack with 1 TX + 1 RX + charging box costs €89
- Transmitter alone (available in absolute black or arctic white) is sold for €59
- The charging case alone costs €49
For its mini format
The Mic mini obviously stands out by its ultra-compact format. With only 10 grams on the scale, less than half the weight of the DJI Mic 2 (28 grams), it can be worn discreetly, without distorting clothing, even the thinnest ones such as t-shirts or light shirts.
The fixing system is the same as that of the Mic 2. You can choose to choose a traditional clip or a magnetic systemmore discreet but also more practical.
The all-in-one charging case has also undergone a slimming treatment while retaining its modularity. It allows you to store the entire system: two transmitters, a receiver, smartphone adapters and windscreens. This compact, smart design makes it an ideal travel companion for on-the-go creators who want to travel light without sacrificing the quality of their gear. Used during a report in China, it gave us complete satisfaction.
For recording quality
Despite its tiny size, the DJI Mic Mini doesn’t compromise on sound quality. Engineers developed two-level noise cancellation technology to improve voice pickup in different environments.
Basic mode allows you to record indoors eliminating ventilation, air conditioning or reverberation noise while maintaining voice clarity.
Intense mode is designed for noisy outdoor environments. Vloggers who shoot in urban centers should appreciate it. Because DJI took care to adjust its algorithms in order to maintain a natural voice. The system therefore includes an intelligent automatic limiter which effectively prevents distortion in the event of excessively high sound peaks.
If, unfortunately, he were to fail, this system is associated with a backup recording functionality at –6dB. If the sound peak is too high, a second track with a reduced recording volume is therefore available.
Finally, the DJI Mic mini can record at a distance of 400 meters, provided you use the receiver. An anti-interference system ensures stable audio capture even in the busiest urban environments. The windscreens provided complete this already very rich device.
For its great versatility
The DJI Mic Mini also shines its great versatility and its perfect integration into the DJI ecosystem. It can connect directly to the manufacturer’s latest cameras (Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4 or Osmo Pocket 3) without having to connect a receiver.
It can of course connect to a smartphone, camera, computer or tablet. In direct Bluetooth connection with a smartphone, it even allows external playback without disconnection and can be recharged simultaneously. Integration with the DJI Mimo app brings additional features such as automatic power-off management and audio level monitoring. Finally, the DJI Mic can connect to the DJI Neo drone using the DJI Fly application and a Bluetooth connection.
Despite its ultra-compact format, The Mic mini offers comfortable autonomy. Allow up to 48 hours of continuous use. Recharging is rather quick: it only takes 5 minutes to save an hour of recording. A full charge of the transmitter takes 90 minutes, that of the receiver takes 10 minutes more.
Our opinion on the DJI Mic mini
You haven’t finished seeing the Mic mini hanging on the chest of content creators. With its new wireless microphone, DJI takes the ingredients that made the Mic 2 so successful, in an ultra-compact format. All without sacrificing recording quality.
The Mic mini shines with its great versatility and ease of use. The cherry on the top: it is available at a very affordable price, also allowing beginners to get started in content creation at a lower cost. A masterclass.
