There is very little time left to see the new Apple computers, some MacBook with the M4 chipa processor that we already saw at the beginning of the year in the iPad, but that is also here to stay in Apple’s PCs, both in laptops and even in the new Mac Mini, something that we find very interesting to see.
However, is a better processor really worth it? Most users of this brand have a computer for its performance, battery life, few errors, ecosystem with other products, etc., but not because they really need so much power, since many of them have probably not squeezed even 50% of their CPU.
Is an M4 worth the extra money?
It is true that the processor not only brings with it greater power, since at the level of efficiency we also notice it, which would make, for example, the computer’s battery last longer, or the computer heat up less, however, if we compare the M1 with the M4, being the first and last generation, We don’t notice so many changesat least for a common user.
I’m writing this from my M1 MacBook Air, and the truth is, for daily use, and I do work with it, I haven’t noticed that it could perform better, and paying more for a more powerful processor that I’m not going to use seems quite ridiculous and consumerist, so, at least for my part, I think that if you don’t need a powerful CPU for rendering, programming, etc., getting an older, cheaper model may be the only good reason for these new Mac models to come out.
Anyway, I’m not the only person who thinks this, and it’s that today, an M1 and an M3 are very similar in priceand unlike other equipment, acquiring this does not vary that much, despite being more than 3 years apart, and finding my model (The Air M1 from 2020) for around 1,000 euros is very feasible, with the M3 being about 150 or 200 euros more expensive at many times of the year, so the question becomes more complicated, but which is more profitable? Would you pay 200 euros more for an M3 because it is newer, or because you think the power is worth it?
In summary, The difference between a 2020 model and a 2024 model will not be very bigand except for a very similar price, getting an M4, at least in my opinion, is throwing money away, and we will only really see any performance in the Mac Mini, where I do think we need a change.
And what do you think about this? Are you one of those who always prefers the latest model, or do you believe, like me, that paying more for a better chip is a waste of time when we never get to use it? Leave us a comment with your opinion and which model you would buy if you needed a new Mac today.
