Bloomberg predicts that Apple will release the Apple Watch Ultra 3 in September 2025 with a new feature never before seen in an Apple Watch: satellite connection. If this is confirmed, Apple’s connected watch will then offer the same functionalities as the iPhone in this area.

An Apple Watch Ultra 3 that communicates with the stars

Since the release of the iPhone 14 in 2022, Apple has offered satellite connectivity on iPhone. This new feature allows any user to connect to a network of satellites to send emergency messages and share their location, even when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

According to Mark Gurmanthe next generation of the Apple Watch Ultra will be Apple’s first smartwatch to feature satellite connectivity, similar to that of the iPhone. The Apple Watch Ultra 3, scheduled for release in 2025, is expected to allow users to send emergency messages and share their location when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi network. It is scheduled for release at the same time as that of iPhone 17 and Apple Watch Series 11.

The Apple Watch Ultra could thus communicate its position by satellite and send SMS messages. Since the release of iOS 18 in September, Apple has extended this functionality to all SMS messages, and no longer just those intended for emergency services. Great news for Apple adventurers around the world.

Apple launched the Apple Watch Ultra in 2022, then followed with a second version in 2023. Faced with a lack of new products, the Apple brand decided not to release a third model in 2024. The satellite connection could be an excellent selling point for the Apple Watch Ultra 3, scheduled for September 2025.
