After iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS 15.2 and visionOS 2.2, Apple released the first beta version of tvOS 18.2 for developers, which introduces support for the 21:9 aspect ratio, often used by projectors.
An interesting new feature for customers
As reported Sigmund Judge on X, this tvOS 18.2 update allows Apple TV to automatically detect and select the optimal aspect ratio for connected displays, whether projectors or TVs. Available options now include 16:9, 21:9, 2.37:1, 2.39:1, 2.40:1, DCI 4K, and 32:9.
Support for 21:9 aspect ratio had been announced as a feature of tvOS 18, but was not included in the first release. Ideal for those who use a projector like Xiaomi Mi Smart Compact.
In addition to this improvement, tvOS 18.2 adds an option to show or hide volume feedback from external audio devices, such as soundbars.
Apple customers are still waiting for the new Snoopy screensavers announced for tvOS, they are still not visible in the 18.2 update.
For the record, the biggest new feature in tvOS 18 was InSight, an option which allows you to have information at the moment in a film or series, in particular the actors on the screen. A function similar to Amazon’s X-Ray.
